Post-Holiday Post: 100 Days of Making Comics Day 10-22

Hey, I'm Anna Raub [AKA: Mask Woman from the Turaco Creative Cast] I'm doing the 100 Days of Making Comics Challenge [courtesy of Kevin Cross.]

Post-Holiday Post: 100 Days of Making Comics Day 10-22

  • I took Christmas and New Year’s off from blogging. It was a busy yet entertaining time, and offered an opportunity to catch up with family. Things were busy as usual. But I’ll admit, I actually enjoyed having a slightly quieter holiday season this year. It was a great break to help me catch up a little on life now that I’m fresh out of college. With the academic world behind me, I’m now entering an odd phase of life where I’ve got to learn how to be a human and an adult.

  • All along however, I’ve been around and posting daily updates in the “daily-time-punch” channel of the Triple-A Creators Community Discord Server. [Which is the comic making group behind the 9Volt anthologies.]

  • To be straightforward, I honestly don’t feel like re-writing/re-formatting all of my entries, and chances are, most people probably don’t even really want to read through a big wall of repetitive text. Instead, I'll add a big picture and the end of this blog post of all the updates I made in the “daily-time-punch” channel of the Discord Server [that I just mentioned above.] So instead of putting this blog post off longer by trying to make it all “formal” and carefully dividing it into sections for each day through the holidays, I’m just gonna get it done.

So without further ado,

here is a basic overview

and a video too,

well actually two:

I actually worked a fair bit on mask woman concept art not featured in this video, as well as some other creative projects, so I'll add those in a later post. For now, I'm focusing on Endstar Arrival for the 100 days of making comics.

Here's the turnaround that I worked on in the top video. The next step is to finalize the line art and get all the colors figured out.

Here's concept art for a new little robot critter called Qubit. I've been having a great time drawing this little guy and a bunch of other interesting robot creatures:

[There are a few other random rough sketches of these robot creatures that I left out, so I'll get to posting them a little later on a neat concept art chart when I get to detailing them.]

My goal is to actually find a use or purpose for each one of the robots. In this concept art, Qubit transforms into a sword:

I figured that the design would also look kinda neat as a helmet.

For good measure, here are the next few pages I've been working on roughing in:

A note on my process: I printed the rough draft versions of the next several pages, and my next step will be to re-pencil and detail each page, taking me into the second draft phase where I'll then scan them and finalize the line art and details digitally. [This is the same process that I found useful while making the first part of Endstar Arrival.]

Finally, Here are the various updates that I made in the discord server.

Finally, moving on to the last two days [not counting today [1/4/2021 since it's after 1am as I'm writing this.]

1/2/2021 Day 21: Not much in the way of visual content. I spent my time writing new ideas down, and making my older ones more concrete. I've been mapping out the world for this story and putting together backstories, locations, and a bit of lore since there's ancient tech, a largely forgotten war, abandon cities, a lost continent, and other intriguing things like competing agencies that are after out of place artifacts.

1/3/2021 Day 22: Did some more sketches. This Time I drew Coda a few times, then focused on Scruffy the giant bird. Gonna make a model sheet for Scruffy soon. Scruffy's the main character after all right? just kidding. [Although he kinda is.]

Thank you for checking out my blog! :)
